TN1125 : Estimation of environmental impact of Neka Cement Plant and its mines by life cycle assessment method

Abstarct: Abstract The cement industry is one of the important consumers of energy and mineral resources. Therefore, the issue of environmental pollution in this industry is one of its important concerns. In this regard, it is necessary to evaluate the environmental effects of cement production to minimize these pollutions. Life cycle assessment, which is called LCA, is one of the standard methods for environmental assessment, which is currently used for the environmental assessment of various products, including cement production. By analyzing a product or process during all stages of its life, this method provides comprehensive information about the environmental effects caused by the consumption of resources and waste production, and the options for improvement and improvement of the studied system. By investigating and knowing the environmental effects of cement factories and knowing the production process, it is possible to take the required preventions with management solutions to improve the situation of various pollution levels. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the environmental effects of Neka Cement Factory and its mines using the life cycle assessment method. This study is done for the production of one ton of cement during the process from the extraction of mineral raw materials to the production of the final product. In this way, first the input and output of the processes were calculated, the system boundary was determined, and then using the OPEN LCA software and the life cycle assessment technique baxsed on the selected TRACI model, the environmental impact indicators were determined and the results were interpreted. According to the results obtained in different stages of cement production, the greatest impact on the categories of environmental consequences is respectively in the stages of calcination, grinding of raw materials, extraction of minerals from mines and cement production along with its packaging. Therefore, the optimal consumption of inputs and energy in the cement production process will reduce the amount of pollutant emissions and reduce environmental indicators.
